Accessibility

Duomo Di Milano

Visitors with disabilities can access the Duomo di Milano via two ramps that have a handrail and a maximum incline of 8%. There are two entrances, one for the faithful and one for visitors, which have a 15 cm ramp with a 21% incline. The aisles of the cathedral are broad and easy to visit, but certain areas like the weekly Chapel, the Baptistery of St. Stephen, the Scurolo (dark room), and the Crypt of St. Charles are not easily accessible due to stairs.

Baptistery Of San Giovanni Alle Fonti

Due to construction work, access for those with disabilities is currently not allowed until the completion of the project. To access the Baptistery of San Giovanni alle Fonti, visitors with disabilities must request it at the Ticket Office when they purchase their ticket. They can reach the Baptistery by taking a lift to the basement floor located in piazza Duomo at the corner via Pellico. From there, they must follow the signs and turn right twice, then reach the entrance to the Baptistery which has a video entryphone and a bell at a height of 115 cm. The Baptistery features ramps that connect the different areas inside and have a maximum incline of 12% and a length of up to 7.5 m, with a minimum width of 71 cm.

Terraces

Wheelchairs are only allowed access to the first terrace, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and must use the Southern Elevator (77x106x130). If the Southern Elevator fails, the Northern Elevator (65x111x137) can be used. The passage to reach the Terraces from the elevators is 78 cm from the south and 68 cm from the north.

Grande Museo Del Duomo

The Museo del Duomo covers an area of 2,000 square meters on the ground floor. The entrance, located on the left side of the Palazzo Reale’s courtyard, has a small ramp with a 5% incline and double swing doors (76 cm per door). The visit to the exhibition halls is a circular path featuring ramps with a maximum inclination of 9%. Most of the halls are very large and dark. The Gian Galeazzo Hall, on the mezzanine floor of Palazzo Reale, is used for special events and can be reached by elevator with a 90 cm door. The above-ground paths are marked, and the alarm is both visual and sound-based.

Church of San Gottardo in Corte

The Church of San Gottardo in Corte is located along the path of the Grande Museo del Duomo. However, to access the church from the museum, visitors must navigate the steps.

It is recommended to leave Palazzo Reale and go down via Carlo Maria Martini to reach Palazzo Reale on the right. The church is located via Pecorari, which crosses via Palazzo Reale halfway. The church can be entered without encountering any exterior steps at this location.

Information for the Visit

The operators at the Monumental Complex will provide visitors with both information and hospitality. Entrance to the complex is free for people with disabilities and their accompanying individuals. People with disabilities and their accompanying individuals can utilize audio guides and radio guides at no charge. These audio guides are equipped with touchscreens. Guided Tactile Tours for Blind and Partially Sighted Visitors

The Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo is dedicated to making its heritage accessible to all, including blind or partially sighted visitors. The organization offers guided tactile tours for Duomo Milan conducted by our trained guides, which include the Cathedral, the Archaeological Area, and the Terraces. These tours for Duomo Milan provide a comprehensive history of the city, blending the past and the present.
